palm springs and happy birthday hambone

this weekend (well...monday's are weekends for us) hambone, adam, p and i all took off to palm springs in celebration of ham's birth.

we checked into the ace hotel monday afternoon and spent the day dancing in our room, drinking by the pool, and taking an obscene amount of pictures. i'm not sure how one would survive in 106 degree heat for more than an hour at a time - but tequila infused drinks and a body of water (does a pool count as a body of water?) kind of makes it bearable.

i can't tell you how exciting it is that heather is back in la, and after three years i was able to party with her on her birthday! having our little "crew" back together sure does make me one happy little baby.

#85 learn to play the ukulele

we're still perfecting harmony (and trying really hard to memorize the lyrics).

not gonna lie, maybe we practiced this about thirty-five other times while in palm springs.

but in the meantime, here were are in a park in sacra-mendi.

...after a quick breakfast stop at chick-fil-a

sounds like...

i'm 28 years old.

last night i played my first game of charades.

little black kids when i was growing up (who am i kidding? i knew like, two) did not play charades.

here's what i learned:

speaking in front of a large group of people in no way makes me nervous.

not speaking however, makes me sweat balls.

i'm intensely competitive.

i'm pretty damn good at it.

that is all

life lately

i can use a(nother) vacay like no one's business.

or at least find a rock to hide under; complete with a blanket to throw over my head.

monday we'll head to palm springs to celebrate hambone's 30th.

looking forward to poolside drinking and any other debauchery that's thrown our way.

someone please. just get me out of la for a day.

i can't believe you're already nine years old today!

it seems like just yesterday we were all at the hospital waiting to meet you for the first time. when you were born, i figured i already had the "auntie" thing down - and pretty much considered myself a professional in the babysitting and diaper changing department - i just couldn't wait for a brand new baby to hold.

you are growing up to be such an intelligent, loving, generous little girl and i'm so greatful to be your auntie.

one year ago today, heather married her best friend in new orleans, louisiana.

it was a privilege to be a part of such an incredible weekend that was filled with friends, family, food

(oh yeah...let's not forget the booze) and ridiculous amounts of love.

heather, thank you so much for including me in your very special day.

i'm inspired every day as i watch you grow as a married woman, and i hope to one day be lucky enough to marry a man as loving and kind as the one you married.

albeit trivial at times, thank you for always lending an ear to my "single girl" stories.

i promise to always keep them interesting - and to pour you a glass of wine during story time.

congratulations on your first year of marriage!

and an afternoon spent with my favorite person

oh, sacra-mendi. how i've missed you so

this weekend, heather (sans her mister) and i hit the old i-5 to pay visit to our dear friend sacramento.

we were welcomed by friends, warm weather, cinco-de-mayo festivities and a kick ass black keys concert. oh! not to mention we ate and drank (orange creamsicle cocktails anyone?) to our little heart's content. 

sunday we spent the afternoon in the park where we day drank, chatted for hours and finally harmonized our favorite song - which we promptly video taped (well...minus the whole ukulele part).

 probably one of my most favorite weekends in a really long time - although, i've had a lot of those this year and i couldn't be happier.

i think it was during a walk downtown that heather and i came up with the conclusion that anyone that doesn't love sacramento, simply hates life, happiness and everything that's magic!

we'll be seeing you again, old friend.
